Our Story
Local library supporters who were passionate about sustaining the library’s needs for future generations established the Canby Public Library Foundation (CPLF) in 2012. This group was heavily involved in having a new Canby Public Library building built for the community.
Originally started to raise funds for a new library building, the CPLF recognized that ongoing tax revenue was not enough to provide Canby with any more than the bare minimum library services.
The mission of the CPLF has continued to enhance library programs Maker Space, STEAM programs, and aviation camps for middle school patrons, as well as other educational programs for children, teens and adults. The Foundation has donated computers, a digital signboard, account services desk, and is currently working on enhancements for the maker space and STEAM room in the new library.
Now that we have our amazing new library, we continue to raise funds and are working to create a $2 million-dollar endowment that will financially support our library, in perpetuity, in order to the various library programs, equipment and resources our community needs.
What is the difference between the Foundation and Friends of the Library?
The Canby Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Library work as partners to support our Library. Our Foundation’s emphasis is on private giving and long-term financial support of our library’s development and long-term viability. The Friends of the Library emphasize volunteerism and involvement in Library programs and activities. Together, we partner to foster interest in the library and help to fund enhancements to the library’s facilities, collections, services and programs.
